Essential Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Setup and run CNC machines to produce parts with exacting requirements.
  • Select tools, gage lengths, and set cutting tools into CNC machines per associated documents.
  • Perform quality inspection of parts using standard measuring instruments.
  • Perform mathematical calculations to walk in critical dimensions, depths, countersinks, etc.
  • Detect machining abnormalities and/or malfunctions based on tooling wear and damage.
  • Review machining programs and data package for completeness as required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment as required.
  • Direct/train other machinists on machining processes.
  • Basic understanding of machine M & G codes and program editing.
  • Support CNC Programmer in the development of machining plan for first and one-off production parts.
  • Complete CNC spindle head check and alignment.
  • Work with machine manufacturer to diagnose and troubleshoot CNC equipment.
  • Support Continuous Improvement efforts and maintain a safe, clean work area.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Education:

High School Diploma / GED or equivalent required.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of machine shop experience, including ...

             -- Ability to fabricate various parts, fixtures, and jigs using machining equipment: lathe, mill, waterjet, etc.

             -- Skill in the use of precision measuring instruments

             -- Experience working with and maintaining fixtures and tooling

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of machine shop experience in a low-volume, high-part-value environment.
  • 5-Axis machining and troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to fabricate various parts, fixtures, and jigs using machining equipment: lathe, mill, waterjet, etc.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments to a tolerance of .001”.
  • Experience working with and maintaining fixtures and tooling.
  • Experience with CNC Milling and basic familiarity with CNC programming.
  • Completion of a technical machining program.
  • Part and process development experience.
  • Ability to fabricate parts from print or sketches including: various fixtures, jigs or parts using basic machining equipment (lathe, mill, water jet, etc.).
  • Experience with large composite parts.
  • High-level understanding of machine code in conjunction with strong problem solving skills.
  • Critical loading and rigging experience: cranes, rigging, and lifts.
  • Experience with 5-axis head alignment.
