United Technologies Corporation (UTC) was founded by some of the world’s greatest inventors. We helped build the second industrial revolution and brought about a century of urbanization and globalization. Today, we are the world’s leading aerospace supplier, maker of elevators and escalators, and developer of intelligent building systems. We need your help to build the smart city and air transportation systems for the next century. By combining a passion for science with precision engineering, we create smart, sustainable solutions that prove we can do the big things the right way.

Our engineering development program is named after Margaret Ingels. She was the first American woman to receive a professional degree in mechanical engineering. She was the first female engineer at Carrier (now part of UTC Climate, Controls, and Security), was a close associate of Willis Carrier (and subsequent to his death, his biographer), and spent a distinguished technical career at the company. One of her significant technical accomplishments was the development of the sling psychrometer, a device for the measurement of relative humidity of air.

Role Summary:

UTC’s Ingels Engineering Development Program is an entry-level rotational program for top engineering students around the world sponsored by the UTC Chief Technology Officer. You will be working with a passionate, diverse group of people who share a common ambition to change the world for the better. The goal of this two-year rotational program is to expose you to the immensely broad array of products and technologies that comprise UTC’s portfolio, put you on the front line of business-critical assignments to stretch your capabilities and build your real-world knowledge, and give you the opportunity to build some of the most complex and most impactful products that our society makes. Through this program, we seek to identify and prepare the next generation of top technical talent at UTC.

Essential Responsibilities:

The program consists of four six-month rotations for a total of two years in duration, starting in June 2019. Assignment opportunities for this cohort include engineering positions spanning nearly every field of engineering (all engineering degrees and majors are accepted) across:

  • Pratt & Whitney (US, Puerto Rico, and Canada)
  • UT Aerospace Systems (US and India)
  • Climate, Controls, and Security (US)
  • Otis (US)
  • United Technologies Research Center (US)
  • Hyderabad Research and Design Center (India)

While we cannot guarantee specific assignments, we will do our utmost to match your preferences and skills with available opportunities. Flexibility to move around the United States is a requirement, while an international assignment is possible.

The program is sponsored by the UTC Technical Council and will incorporate special projects apart from your regular rotational assignments. There will be periodic report-outs which will provide significant opportunities for exposure and presentations to UTC leadership.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Excellent academic credentials and fluency in one or more engineering disciplines.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the capacity to motivate others.
  • Energetic and results-driven, thriving in fast-paced and dynamic environments.

Application Process:

To initiate your application process, you must submit your application in response to this posting no later than 9/15/2018. If you meet the qualification criteria above, you will be invited to submit your formal transcript, personal statement, and participate in a video interview. In select cases, we may conduct additional interviews or request additional supporting materials. We anticipate making offers to join the Ingels Engineering Development Program no later than 10/15/2018 with your acceptance required by 10/31/2018. The candidates that are selected will start their first rotation on June 17, 2019.
