UTRC seeks candidates with a research background in system-on-chip microarchitecture design to join the Networks & Embedded Systems Group in Cork, Ireland. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong mix of academic background and applied experience in the design of heterogeneous or multicore systems for mixed criticality/multi-level secure (MLS) applications.
The ideal candidate would have previous experience with different processor architectures (ARM, RISC‑V) and hardware platforms (NXP QorIQ, Xilinx, AMD, Nvidia), including knowledge of architectural optimization techniques for both general-purpose compute as well as streaming applications. On-chip interconnect (i.e. NoCs) design for critical systems is of particular interest.
Experience with model-based design techniques will be highly regarded, particularly those related to architecture exploration and evaluation, automatic code generation, formal verification, and network modelling. Knowledge of approaches for validation & certification of safety-critical systems, particularly in the domain of commercial aerospace, is desirable but not essential.
Key Job Responsibilities
Contribute to an established research agenda for future avionics systems within UTC's global aerospace research community.
Execute R&D activities within an international embedded systems research community, including technology development within collaborative EU research projects (under e.g. Horizon Europe, Clean Sky, ECSEL).
Provide competitive advantage for UTC business units as part of a multidisciplinary and international team of experts.
Contribute towards technical strategy and business development.

Education & Experience
A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, with a few years of industrial or academic experience, or a Master's degree with significant experience of industry or academia.
