Job Description: This is a position for a Mechanical Design Engineer supporting commercial fan airfoils on-site at the Pratt & Whitney AutoAir Lansing, Michigan manufacturing facility. The position is part of an on-site engineering team based in Lansing, and has an East Hartford, CT based supervisor. You will support production delivery ramp up of the PurePower® Fan Blades.
You will also be responsible for a wide variety of Engineering Production Support activities supporting the module center including: 1.Implementing process improvement of manufacturing processes
2.Aligning manufacturing process capability to design / blueprint requirements
3.Processing Engineering Changes
4.Implementing cost reduction initiatives
5.Supporting repair development
6. Dispositioning non-conformances (QNs)
7.Answering electronic supplier request for information (ESRI)
You will interact with internal and external customers. You must possess good communication and problem solving skills. 10% travel to suppliers (domestic and international) is a possibility as well as travel to P&W Connecticut facilities occasionally. The position is part of Compression Systems Engineering, an organization which is responsible for mature & development commercial engine Fans, Low and High Pressure Compressors for all P&W commercial and military engine products.

This role has a non traditional work shift. Candidates should be willing to work 2nd shift hours.

Qualification: Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline
  • 2 + years engineering experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government program requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics, Ansys, Catia Cad or other classical methods of analysis
  • Airfoil mechanical design experience and automated design optimization skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work in an off-site location with minimal day-to-day oversight
  • Ability to engage and communicate with manufacturing engineers and hourly shop personnel
  • A broad understanding of hardware, blueprints and manufacturing methods

Education: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
